During the 4th of July weekend, I spent a bit of time at my aunt's house in Warren, TX. She lives in the middle of the Big Thicket National Forrest. I ended up spending a lot of time outside taking photos.
I have so many amazing photos, that it is hard to fit them all in one post. So, at some point, look for some other posts with more photos from this trip.
That being said, this week will be an outdoor excursion into the woods. So, put on some good shoes and come on.

I love going out to The Oasis on Lake Travis. This place is known for it's restaurants, brewery, and shops. My favorite place to shop in the Oasis is Groover's Paradise, a record shop that focuses on older albums.
This spot also has one of the best views of Lake Travis. Although, some would probably say that Hippy Hollow is better, but if the post were on that, then my photos would be quite different.
I love the view from the Oasis so much that it is even on my business cards. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.

I have never been shy about my love of a good beer. It also helps that I live in Austin, the land of many bars and breweries.
It also helps to have four dear friends involved in the industry. No, they are not brewers...Well, Grant is a home brewer, but five years ago he used to think that some beers tasted like hotdogs. So, I don't know how much credit I'd give him on the brewing department (Sorry, Grant).
In all seriousness, my friends run an award winning beer review podcast, The Beeriests. Earlier this year, they celebrated their fifth anniversary with a huge party at Jester King Brewery, in Austin. This was a chance for people from all over the world to flock to the Texas capital and have fun, all while sharing beers local to their home towns.
I took advantage of the event to do a six hour photo shoot.
I could drone on about it, but I'd rather just let my favorite photos from the shoot stand out on their own. So, with that said, I leave you to meet some of my drunken friends.

Being friends with a magician has it's perks, including learning ways to get a free drink. It also leads to some amazing photos.
My friend, Brian Brushwood has been a punk rock magician and podcaster for years. He literally wrote the book on fire eating. One of his biggest endeavors has been Scam School, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
Imagine an online show where you learn scams, puzzles and magic tricks to help you score drinks at the bar. The show was also picked up for a pilot on the Science Channel. So, in honor of the television show and the 10th anniversary of Scam School, I thought I would share some of my favorite behind the scenes photos from some of the best bars in Austin (Including The Handlebar, The Rusty Mule, and The Nomad).

Telethon are still alive in local news and are very profitable for the charities that they represent. One I had the joy of working at for two years was the Permian Basin Rehab Center telethon.
All donations went to provide rehabilitation for families that couldn't afford it. Most of the center's focus was on children and during the telethon viewers were able to hear stories from the mouths of the children and their family.
I was doing live camera work for the 2016 telethon, while a friend of mine was the hired still photographer...But i couldn't help myself and had to find every chance I could to take some shots.
These are the best of those and I will leave them to tell their own story through an June weekend in 2016.

This is a follow up to my previous post of photos from my days at CBS7 in Odessa, TX. I thought it would be proper to separate my portraits, as they can easily stand on their own.
So, lets get to it with some beautiful people.

I have worked for three different TV stations, but the one that I have the most photos from would have to be CBS7 in Odessa, TX. It was a great station and a wonderful stepping stone to get me to Austin.
I will probably do a few of these photo stories about them over time, but this one will probably be the biggest, as it is a standard behind the scenes.

I had a few photos that I wanted to include with my last post on nature, but they just didn't seem to fit, so I'm including them in this short post.
These are a few of my favorite weather photos from 2015. One is from a summer rainstorm and the others are from when snowstorm Goliath ran through west Texas in December of 2015.

If you can't tell by the title, I decided to focus on nature with this post.
Most of these came from 2015, but there are a few from 2017.
Enjoy the loveliness that is nature and plant life.

Animals are very interesting to film...Especially, wild and feral animals. Many times you have to be in the right place at the right time with the right equipment.
Usually these type photos can not be planned out because wild animals will do what they want to do. My trick is to just start shooting and as I see what the animal is doing, I adjust.
There is also the idea of patience. If I really want to get the shot of certain animals, I may wait upwards of an hour just to get the shot. The funny thing is that I don't know what "the shot" is until it happens. This is all up to the animals...

Sometimes I can't always use a flash. If I'm inside a bar for a party and it isn't a private event, then I usually can not use a flash. I have ways of compinsating by raising my ISO or using what light is available. I wanted to show a few photos from two evens where this was the case.
They all have some amount of grain in them because of the lack of flash, but this made the photos in my opinion. After all, grain did not become an ugly word until the digital age.
Enough tech talk, lets get into the shots.

Welcome. Today, i thought I'd talk a little bit about a photo shoot I did on January, 16, 2016.
The client, David Huertas, hired me to do an hour long shoot at The Midland Center, in Midland, TX. We were both ready for a great morning, and then a cold front came through. As I recall, the temperature did not get above 37 degrees while we were out. By the end of the shoot, I had no feeling in my hands and could barely press the shutter, but it was worth it to take some great photos that I was proud of and made the client happy.
